An important new operation to protect the environment was completed in recent days by military personnel from the Carabinieri Forestry Unit of Capaccio-Paestum and personnel from the Provincial Security Guards Unit of the Kronos Academy Salerno. The operation, which is part of a broader control activity of the territory, after careful investigations carried out also with the aid of drones, made it possible to ascertain that the owners of a well-known buffalo company had for some time carried out within the company center a real landfill as well as illicitly disposing of tons of livestock effluents (palatable and non-palatable parts) on uncultivated land and in the nearby drains which slowly allowed the sewage to reach the nearby waterways and therefore the sea.
The operation which began at the first light of dawn a few days ago, however, was much more complex due to the enormous critical issues attributable to the presence of waste, sewage, urine and excrement within the entire company centre, a circumstance which together with the presence of waste of various and gentle cosmetics (aggregates of construction origin, tons of ferrous waste, wooden platforms, plastic films, etc.) made the technical and inspection operations of the entire company much more difficult. A situation which also made it possible to ascertain and photographically document that all the buffaloes present in the stabling areas were perpetually forced to live and walk in their own excrement which, due to the absence of a suitable drainage network, even reached 60 centimeters in height. from the walkable surface. During the operations, the soldiers and technical staff of the AK Guards Unit, after having carried out careful checks with the aid of fluorescein, also ascertained that the owners of the company had started a recovery activity of waste from demolition activities, inert materials, mud, excavated earth etc. in order to fill a difference in level of a fund and create a further stable area.
At the end of the inspection operations, the military, having found that the owners of the company had in fact illicitly disposed of the livestock effluents within the company center but also of the neighboring land, proceeded with the seizure of the entire company center amounting to approximately 40.000 square meters and of the agricultural land with a surface area of approximately 12.000 square meters as it was in fact used as a landfill, the owners in a state of freedom reported for the crimes of construction and management of an illegal landfill, illicit management of non-hazardous special waste, illicit disposal of effluents livestock but also for the crime of mistreatment animal having effectively forced all the livestock on the farm to live in conditions ethologically incompatible with theirs and gentle cosmetics.
