The twinning between the Certosa di Padula and the Certosa di Calci is underway

The Mayor of Padula Michela Cimino and the Mayor of Calci Massimiliano Ghimenti this morning they have confirmed, in the refectory of Certosa di Calci, the “Twinning Agreement” between the two respective monumental complexes for launch an integrated promotion of the two Charterhouses, aimed at knowledge and dissemination of the historical, artistic and naturalistic riches of the two places, through cultural exchanges, guided tours and conferences.

The twinning agreement, already signed on 11 January 2020 in Padula, at the Certosa di San Lorenzo, was confirmed today by the two Mayors in the presence of a delegation of administrators from the Municipality of Padula, composed of the Tourism Councilor Antonio Fortunati, by the Councilor for Culture Caterina Di Bianco, from the Councilor to the Environment Giuseppe Tierno and Nino Melito Petrosino, great-grandson of Joe Petrosino and honorary president of the Association named after the policeman who was a precursor of the fight against the mafia, as well as the Regional Director of the Museums of Tuscany Stefano Casciu, Delegate to confirm the Pact by the Director General of the Museums of the Ministry of Culture for the Campania Region.

By the Municipality of Calci, in addition to the Mayor Massimiliano Ghimenti, the Director of the National Museum of the Monumental Certosa of Calci was present Pierluigi Nieri, the Director of the Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa Elena Bonaccorsi and the President of the Friends of Vallo di Diano and Cilento Association in Tuscany Gesualdo Russo.

The Mayor of Padula reserved words of appreciation and esteem for the latter for what he has been doing for years in Tuscany in terms of promoting Vallo di Diano and Cilento. “We are proud of a fellow countryman who has demonstrated great value in your Municipality and in your Region”, said the Mayor of Padula Michela Cimino, referring to Gerardo Russo, originally from Sassano, but resident in Tuscany for several decades.

"Gesualdo is the demonstration that we Valdians know how to integrate perfectly into other realities, different from those of our origins, without ever losing the bond and love for our land", added Cimino.

The Association of Friends of Vallo di Diano and Cilento in Tuscany, in fact, has been organizing tourist trips for years aimed at making known the beauties of Salerno, in particular the Certosa di San Lorenzo.

Regarding the agreement, however, the first citizen of Padula underlined the need to launch common initiatives to be presented on the national and international market to also deseasonalize the tourist offer. Furthermore, Cimino recalled that the two Charterhouses also represent architectural masterpieces and centers of monastic communities which had a decisive role in the economic development of the two territories and which today constitute an attractive force: “The objective must also be to intercept, promote and strengthen cultural and religious tourism, through all those initiatives capable of best developing this tourism sector as well”.

The Mayor of Calci is also satisfied with the result achieved, Massimiliano Ghimenti: "The first twinning between two Certosa in Italy could only also concern our splendid cultural wonder. We are proud of this result achieved, for which I thank the Amici del Vallo di Diano and Cilento association, the Municipality of Padula and all the institutions involved. We are also very satisfied that today the joint promotion of the splendid cultural realities and the related territories will begin, which will give great visibility to Calci and Monte Pisano".

Finally, both mayors hoped that this twinning agreement could also be extended to other Italian Charterhouses over time.
