Municipality of Corleto Monforte: trekking on the Italia trail

Sentiero Italia CAI – stage SI S04 – The stage that passes through CORLETO MONFORTE. Piaggine – Casone Aresta (south-north direction)

Stage of medium length and moderate altitude difference that reaches 1500 meters above sea level.

Of the 35 km that the stage measures, 19 km cross the municipality of Corleto Monforte.

It starts from Piaggine with a long climb, at times very steep, which leads in the direction of Monte Motola, before entering a valley from which you reach the saddle that separates it from Monte Vivo.

You descend from the northern slope to around 1000 meters above sea level before continuing the climb towards Cocuzzo delle Puglie, without reaching the summit.

You then descend to Passo della Sentinella.

From here, passing the thick pine forest, you reach the Fontana di Sant'Elia and continuing Piano della Croce-Serroni and Costa del Monte, you go around the top of the Scarrone dei Corvi, and go up in the direction of the Corcomona Refuge.

Continuing, you pass under the memorial stone which commemorates the accident which occurred to the ASL Sa3 air ambulance in 1997 and descend through the Varco dello Schiavo until you reach the Pozzo dei tre comune, and finally go up towards the Casone Aresta, passing through the Grava del Parchitello, in the municipality of Petina.

The SI S04 is a stage of the Sentiero Italia of difficulty E, with breathtaking views that passes through some of the most beautiful beech forests in all of southern Italy.
