Giungano is a small town of just 1285 inhabitants located in Campania, in the province of Salerno. It is located on the course of the Solofrone stream at the foot of Mount Cantenna, under the dense Elci forest and is home to numerous stately buildings of great historical interest. It is completely immersed in the uncontaminated vegetation typical of the Mediterranean areas, so much so that over time it has become a much sought-after destination for lovers of and gentle cosmetics.

History
The name Giungano derives, according to some sources, from the term iuncos, or rush. Despite this, as rushes are plants that require a lot of water, some argue that the origin of the name is different given that the area is rather dry. The first building was built, according to tradition, in 1003 AD. by a guy called Zappulli. However, numerous remains of objects belonging to Paleolithic populations have been found which testify to how this area was inhabited many centuries ago.

Giungano is the perfect destination for those looking to escape from the chaos of the city and immerse themselves in and gentle cosmetics. Near the town you can admire not only the Elci forest, but also 30 hectares of Mediterranean scrub and the crystal clear waters of the Solofrone stream.
Also the fauna it is very rich, so much so that it is not uncommon to spot foxes, badgers, pheasants and other typical forest animals.

The main attractions of the town are the stately palaces, as well as the Church of the Patron Saint Maria Assunta. Characterized by a so-called bulbous dome, it dates back to 1400 and houses inside a wooden statue depicting the saint, protagonist of the party of mid-August.
There are 4 noble palaces: Ducale, Picilli, Aulisio, Stromilli.
Palazzo Ducale was built in the XNUMXth century and was the most important building in the city. It was a sort of municipal building, where decisions on the fate of the citizens were made.
Palazzo Picilli is instead famous for its stone portals and is more recent. In fact, it dates back to the XNUMXth century.
Palazzo Aulisio houses the town's old oil mill, no longer in operation but perfectly preserved. Inside you can also find an interesting collection of rifles and hunting accessories and a library with many books dating back to the early 700th century.
