To mitigate the effects of climate change the only possible strategy is to remove the causes that determined it and in adapting the Vallo di Diano area to better withstand the induced water stress. But if these are long-term goals, in the meantime we need to update the hydrological infrastructures that have remained unchanged since when everything was different.
Water, how to conserve, preserve and use it, is fully included among the priorities to be written in the political agenda of the Vallo di Diano and Tanagro Integrated Reclamation Consortium, involving all political representatives, local authorities and the agricultural world of the territory of Vallo di Diano to make common sense and effective choices.
In this scenario of profound water crisis it is necessary to act in the short term to define the priorities for use of the water resources available today, giving priority to the agricultural sector to encourage medium-long term infrastructural interventions aimed at increasing the water storage capacity and of subsequent optimization in management.
The problem must be addressed with a project that can immediately be built for the creation of a network of small reservoirs (lakes) with low landscape impact, which are better able to withstand the ongoing severe drought.
In light of this, in the absence of large infrastructures, on a synergistic level, today the aim of the Vallo di Diano and Tanagro Integrated Reclamation Consortium must be to push for the creation of small lakes fed by the runoff of surface water, from springs, from water taken from waterways close to the reservoir, which should help create water reserves to be used in times of greatest need.
