Key role of customs Salerno in Operation “Jo demeter”, coordinated by the World Customs Organization. In recent days, a broad international action has taken place against the illicit trafficking of waste and the trade of substances harmful to the ozone layer. The operation called “Jo demeter” involved 106 customs administrations, including Italy, and led to important seizures. During 2023, in particular in the month of October, over 539 tonnes of waste of various types and 50 tonnes of HFCs, a substance harmful to the ozone layer, were intercepted. Joint efforts, including those of Salerno and other port cities such as Genoa, Turin, La Spezia, Milan, Ancona and Bari, have demonstrated the effectiveness of international collaboration in stopping these illegal trades.
