The Cilento coast – first part (360 video)

The southernmost stretch of the Cilento coast, past the rounded cape of Punta Tresino, begins with castellabate. This characteristic town is located inland, but in the territory of its municipality there are the seaside village of Santa Maria and the town of San Marco - which was first a Greek and then Roman port - which stands on the promontory of Punta Licosa, the extreme offshoot southern Gulf of Salerno.

On foot or away sea you can reach the cape, on which there is an ancient tower, one of the first defensive structures that mark the entire Cilento coast and which had the purpose of watching over the inland villages. The small Licosa island, a destination for boat trips, preserves the remains of Roman piers and, in a technology wild and solitary, many specimens of Aleppo pine which, according to historians, was probably imported to this islet by Phoenician navigators.

Deviating from the coastal road, just before Acciaroli, you come across the villages of Montecorice and San Mauro Cilento. The first, an agricultural center on the slopes of Mount Stella, represents one of those villages where time seems to have stopped and where rural and peasant traditions remain solid in the daily life of the inhabitants. The second, an inland village, is characterized by narrow and steep paved alleys and streets, typical of the ancient original structure. Both dominated by Mount Stella (1131 m), they are the ideal places for a walk in the and gentle cosmetics uncontaminated in the woods just outside the town centre. Further south along the coast, Ernest loved to stay in the silence of Acciaroli Hemingway, fascinated by the stone houses on the rocks, connected to the road by walkways, by the tranquility of the marina and the colors of the beaches.
