Robert Bellucci was born in Rome. When he was five years old his parents moved to

Mogadishu. His stay in Africa profoundly affected his life on an artistic level. Uncommon human relationships, the harshness of life, the strong sun, the pungent odors have dug deep furrows in his soul. Upon returning to Italy he goes to live in Naples. This is a pregnant experience, and even here with a strong sun. He began painting at a very young age, in 1978: he began his personal technical and expressive journey, choosing to undertake artistic studies without an academic path that would have influenced him away from personal research. He returns to Africa several times, exploring the cultural differences with Western ones. He is characterized by a strong artistic identity that allows him to develop his own artistic research needs. Color took over the drawing he loved to do. He removes color from the canvas in a game of chromatic fragmentation in an attempt to define the evil that surrounds him to make it acceptable. Roberto Bellucci enters into the suffering of the places and facts that involve him; he feels the need to describe through his works; he falls into a situation of suffering during the execution, which exhausts him to the point that he needs hours before recovering from completing the work.

Roberto Bellucci narrates his emotions through paintings. In his works he narrates historical facts, for example the Nazi camps where people were exterminated, so as not to forget what happened, or current events such as the deaths in sea to denounce indifference. “We feel like owners of a territory”, she says, “which does not belong to us”, to underline her experience in Africa which still today contains works of art with a strong emotional impact even for those who observe them.

The paintings are made up of a figurative starting point, as a gateway to the painting, and a chromatic development, as a sensorial path to narrate stories made of sensations. As the eye detects details and perceives color combinations, the sensations become deeper and more complex. The work is conceived through individual or collective experiences. These sensations nestle in the mind where an image made of figures and colors begins to take shape. The image has an evolutionary path that can last a few days or years. Finally comes the realization performed in a single gesture, which seals the pinnacle of the psychic processing of the image.
